The brand behind the shoe

The Long Run

Every mile leaves a mark. This is what tens of thousands of them taught one man, and the standard they built.

Nairobi to Zimbabwe

Born in Nairobi.
Raised in Zimbabwe.
One pair of shoes.

Born in Nairobi in 1982. In Zimbabwe before his first birthday. By the time Gold-sun was old enough to understand the world, he was already learning that where you start has nothing to do with where you finish.

Power cuts that lasted days. One pair of shoes that had to last the whole year. You learn quickly in those conditions. You learn to keep moving when the circumstances say you should stop.

You do not need perfect conditions. You need the will to move anyway.

The Journey

Zimbabwe to South Africa at 21.
Into the British Army at 23.

After his father passed in 2000, the road led to South Africa in 2003. Then, in 2005, somewhere most people only ever see on a map became the starting line for something else entirely: recruitment into the British Army.

Every border meant starting again from nothing. New country. New rules. A new system that did not know your name or care about your history. Most people have one reason to quit in their life. This was a continent of reasons, crossed one at a time.

Once you have been through the worst of it, fear has nothing left to threaten you with.

The Fire
4:30 AM
Every single day

While the world slept, the work began. Running in the dark before sunrise. No coach. No team. Just the road and the decision to be on it. Most people run away from something. This was running toward something that did not have a name yet.

The British Army
12
Miles. Every single day.

A 35 pound bergen. Ground that does not care how tired you are. Boots that raised blisters on day one and kept raising them. And then they asked for more.

Catterick does not teach you to be strong. Plenty of strong people do not make it through. It teaches the difference between stopping and finishing. Your body tells you to stop long before you need to. Learning to hear that and keep moving anyway is the thing that changes you. It is also exactly what building a brand from nothing requires.

Gold-sun Mhizha. Veteran, British Army.

Staffordshire University

Discipline met strategy.

Between 2013 and 2016 he read business management at Staffordshire University. You can study markets and margins until they make sense on paper. What you cannot study is the feeling of a shoe that lets you down at mile 18, or why runners keep buying from brands that do not really understand them.

So he went back to the road. Not to escape the degree. Because the road was where the real education was happening. Running became the research. Every mile became a question. Every shoe that failed became a brief.

The Promise
2023
Boldstance registered

The idea came first. The company came later.

The standard took shape over years on the road. Boldstance was registered as a company in 2023, but what it stands for was decided long before there was ever a name on a certificate.

What was missing was never another product. It was a brand built by someone who had actually lived the kind of life these shoes are meant to support. Someone who ran not as a hobby, but as a daily act of refusing to stop.

The name came from a simple idea. When everything around you is uncertain, the only thing you control is how you stand. You stand tall. You hold your ground. You dare what others would not.

Boldstance.

The Grind

10,000 miles
of testing before
we asked for your trust.

Every seam that split was a lesson. Every blister was a data point. We ran through rain that soaked straight through mesh that was supposed to hold. We ran in shoes that felt perfect in the lab and fell apart on real roads. Then we went back and did it again.

The shoe does not get to exist until it has earned it.

The Result

Zitanos 2.0

Reinforced where runners break down. Cushioned where the road hits hardest. Light enough to feel fast. Built to a certified 800km lifespan, with 72% energy return measured in testing.

The midsole compound came from iteration 31. The upper came from a mesh failure in a rainstorm during testing. Every setback became data. Every lesson became a design decision. The first 300 pairs are now going into production, and the people who back them get there first.

The Call

You were never
supposed to be here.

From a child in Nairobi who learned one pair of shoes has to be worth it. To a young man who left South Africa with nothing guaranteed. To a soldier who learned the difference between stopping and finishing. To a founder who ran 10,000 test miles before he asked anyone else to trust what he built. To right now.

The long run was never about where you start. It is about who you decide to be when the road gets hard and no one is watching and the easiest thing in the world would be to stop.

Stand tall. Hold your ground. Dare what others would not.
